What this actually involves

No mystery, no scare tactics. Here is the whole job, start to finish.

    Tell us about your premises

    Enter the core information about your organisation, premises, Responsible Person, occupancy and activities. You enter it once.

    Complete your assessment

    Work through guided questions relevant to your premises and service tier — one at a time, in plain English, saving as you go.

  3. 3

    Identify actions

    The system records the improvements and actions arising from your assessment, each with a priority, an owner and a target date.

  4. 4

    Create your Protective Response arrangements

    Build practical response plans — evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication — from the information already in the system.

  5. 5

    Review and maintain

    Use the dashboard to monitor outstanding actions, overdue items, review dates and changes affecting your premises.

Common worries

"I am not a security person"

Good. Neither are most of the people this was built for. The questions are the ones you would ask yourself if you sat down and thought about it properly — the system just makes sure you do not miss any, and writes down what you decided.

How long does it take?

Most single premises get through the assessment in a couple of sittings. You can stop and come back — everything is saved as you go.

Does Martyn's Law even apply to me?

It generally starts at 200 people, including staff, at the busiest times. The Readiness Check takes two minutes and needs no account. Plenty of smaller places do this anyway, because insurers and licensing increasingly ask.

What do I actually end up with?

Four plans you can print and put on the wall — evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication — a list of anything outstanding with dates against it, and a record of when you did it all.

Will it tell me I need to spend a fortune?

No. The law is proportionate to the size and circumstances of the premises, and so is this. Most of what comes out of a Standard Tier assessment costs nothing but thought and a staff briefing.
