Why we built it

Preparedness fails in the gap between intention and record

Most organisations do not fail at protective preparedness because they do not care. They fail because the work is spread across a dozen documents, three inboxes and one person's memory — and because there is no single place that shows what is outstanding.

Someone writes an evacuation plan. It is good. Then the duty managers change, a fire exit is reconfigured, the assembly point becomes a building site, and nobody updates the document because nobody is looking at it. Twelve months later the plan is still there, still well written, and no longer true.

The Martyn's Law Workbook was built to close that gap. It asks straightforward questions, keeps the answers in one structured record, builds your plans from that record, turns gaps into actions with owners and dates, and reminds you when a review is due.

What we believe

Proportionate, not maximal

Martyn's Law is proportionate to the size and circumstances of the premises. A system that implies every possible security measure is required does organisations a disservice and wastes money that could be better spent. The Workbook helps you consider what may be appropriate to your particular premises, circumstances and risks — and record why you decided what you decided.

Plain English, not security jargon

If a question needs a glossary, it is the wrong question. Terminology is explained where it appears, in a sentence, without taking you out of what you were doing.

Calm, not alarmist

The aim is not to predict or prevent every possible incident. It is to make sure organisations have considered what they can reasonably do to protect people and respond effectively. Design that trades on fear gets in the way of that.

A management system, not a document generator

Producing a PDF is easy. Keeping arrangements true as staff, buildings and activities change is the hard part, and it is the part that actually protects people. That is why the dashboard, the actions and the review reminders matter as much as the plans.

Honest about what a product can do

No software makes an organisation compliant. The Workbook helps you structure, record and manage your protective preparedness arrangements. You remain responsible for ensuring the measures and procedures you implement are appropriate to your circumstances and applicable legal requirements. We will not tell you otherwise to close a sale.
